An interesting day. Preparing for an initiation tonight at our Sufi ceremony and realizing that tomorrow is the day of Ashura, when the grandson of the Prophet Muhammed was martyred. This is a day of introspection and prayer all over the Islamic world. The two main branches of Islam have different ceremonies and this can be a point of contention and hostility. May there be a peaceful remembrance today. May we recognize that there have been many martyrs through the ages and bow deeply for their sacrifice. May we see their sacrifice with visionary eyes and become more compassionate and loving.
Death can be a vast constriction and also a vast freedom. An initiation can be a sort of death. The Sufis say die before you die and resurrect now. This sort of death opens doors to the inner world and is a way to embrace freedom. May this day be a blessing to each of us. May we walk through the day in remembrance for all that has gone before to bring us to this point of awakening to our Oneness. And so it is!

Leaning in, closer and closer still.  Unveiling that which has been hidden.  Exploring the depths with great courage and insight.  We are being called upon to do these things now.  Searching for the Truth amidst all the misinformation.  Letting out heart guide us.  What is real?  What would Love do?  Looking at the world through all sorts of eyes.  

What has been lost?  What have we left behind as we went in search of something that would fill the hole in our heart caused by our belief that we are seperate;  seperate from God, from each other, from creation.   This is one of the things that we have discovered is not Truth.  We are indeed One

.May we awaken to this fact and begin to act in ways that honor each part of the whole.  Blessed be.

This is a time for dreams, time to go within, to work on many levels at once.  Something is coming forth from deep in the ancient, primal past to enliven the present and to bring hope for the future.  Part of us is fulfilling the outer tasks and another deeper more inner place is moving into stillness, a deep listening for our next step.  

There is a certain grace available in this time.  It gives us a rare chance to truly penetrate the Mystery, to lean close to the cracks in our personal and collective hidden unconscious depths.  Let us move gently through our day today.  May we hold steady our presence in the inner realms and may we be precise in our dealings with the outer world.  Have a wonder filled day.

Thinking about my older son today.  This would have been his 55th birthday.  He passed into the Realm of Beauty on November 28th of 2018.  We had such an interesting relationship.  He was a part of the generation depicted by the old TV show with Michael J. Fox where the parents are hippies and the kid is conservative.  My son grew up to be a born again Christian and a Republican.  It was one of those challenges that mothers sometimes are given.  We didn’t talk often and had agreements in place about subjects to speak about.  It didn’t leave a lot to share.  We did usually talk on or near his birthday, so thinking of him.  Sending prayers for his beautiful soul. 

Hadn’t really thought about him being a Virgo lately.  He was always very sure that he was right.  It is so much a part of the challenge we are facing with the polarity in this country.  I think the question is do we want to be right, or do we want to know the Truth?  Can we go deeper into the story.

This quote from Charles Eisenstein’s recent course called ‘Political Hope’ says alot:

“The origin of the wrongness is a story, it’s an experience of separation. It’s our basic understanding of what it is to exist, what it is to be a self, and why we are here in the world. It’s our mythology, a mythology meaning a story that answers the basic questions of life. A mythology that says, “Who you are is a separate individual in a world of other. Why you are here is to survive and to maximize your self-interest, your reproductive self-interest, and your financial self-interest.”

Separation is one of the foundational conceptual pillars of everything I talk about, it’s not the deepest reality. The deepest reality occurs every time you look into somebody’s eyes and realize that this is not a separate being. It’s the same being looking out of different eyes at you. There are these moments of mystical realization that are available all the time.”

Let’s look into each other’s eyes today and experience our Oneness.

My morning reading from ‘Braiding Sweetgrass’ by Robin Wall Kimmerer:  “The earth, that first among good mothers, gives us the gift that we cannot provide ourselves.  I hadn’t realized that I had come to the lake and said, ‘feed me’, but my empty heart was fed.  I had a good mother.  She gives what we need without being asked.  I wonder if she gets tired, old Mother Earth. Or if she too is fed by the giving.  ‘Thanks,’ I whispered, ‘for all of this’.”  

Remembering that no matter what sort of mother gave birth to us, we did have a good mother, the Earth.

Earth is asking us to come in now.  She summons us unto her.  She is ready for change.  Our outer mind is still busy, trying to figure things out, judging, trying to fix things.  We have been absent from our earth home and this is reflected now in the polarities of our outer world.  The question is, “what do we belong to?”  We have been wandering on a path that leads to death, to darkness.  Are we ready to let go of the old ego mind and come on home to our Mother, to Life.  I am ready and grateful for all that she has given me.  Whispering “Thanks for all of this!”

Today I feel a sense of renewal, something has shifted again, something has opened. Kabir, my husband, and I were speaking this morning about the prayer from Koran to guide us on the straight path, instead of following the labyrinth of the mind. Somehow it became very clear that one of the things that prevents us from moving easily toward God or union is our belief system. I guess I had seen us making choices or attempting to follow some religious system and thinking that this was what tended to either keep us on the path or lead us astray. Today I felt deeper into it and saw that it is our doubt, our fear of following guidance, our belief that our path needs to proceed the way we think it ‘should’ go that plays a big part in determining if we are taking the short way or the long way which can contain lots of suffering. I think of how often in my life, I was going in one direction and something came and totally changed my course.

One of those things was a dream that I had while living in the Ozarks in a cabin on five acres that I had bought in the middle of 1,000 acres of environmentally protected forest. And then the dream and a call to Shaykh Nur in New York for interpretation. I said ‘Nur, I had a dream’. And he said ‘Move to Boulder’. Shock, resistance and then surrender to go and see; one step at a time. It wasn’t what I had thought was my quickest path to my destiny. It wasn’t comfortable. I had to trust completely that this was right, not just because Nur told me, but because it felt right and also my son said, when I asked him what he thought, ‘This is home’. In Boulder, I met my beloved husband, who has a birthday tomorrow. Home, indeed.

Oh, Beloved One, guide us on the straight path back to Oneness, back to wholeness. And so it is!

Good morning beloveds;  The exercise bike came yesterday.  So many pieces, but really good instructions to follow.  Step by step it came together and this morning I was able to take my first ride!  Amazing.  Starting slow – 10 minutes at low pedal tension, but will build up over some time.  

Just like life, isn’t it.  Guidance comes step by step and if we follow it eventually we end up with things that are beneficial to us.  We have to follow guidance, however, or we can end up with a real mess, rather like the way the planet and the political situation is looking right now.  

We truly need now to listen, to wait for guidance, to lean into the moment.  We have to take things slow and build up our muscle for this.  We are used to trying to fix things, to figure out by ourselves what to do.  Little wonder that we are in a situation now where we may need to dismantle things and begin again.  Are we wiling to listen now?  Are we ready to follow guidance?  It is truly time.  Big hugs, habiba

Wow!  Quite a heat wave here and lots of smoke from Colorado fires.  None are very near to me, thankfully, but the air is filled with smoke.  Drove to Denver this morning as my husband had a doctor appointment.  Took a toll road, which was really helpful.  Not much traffic.  It took a few minutes longer, and cost a bit, but totally worth it.  

So looking forward to the exercise bike that is in transit to us.  It is way too hot and smoky to be outside right now, so this is a great alternative.  I plan on watching some great classes and hearing some wonderful Ted Talks and podcasts which pedaling away.  This body really needs some exercise.  My longing is for embodied presence and that is not easy when the physical body is yearning to move.  I trust that even with some pain in muscles not used for a time, great joy and freedom will also arise.  I am ready to be fully here.

Busy week this week.  Two astrology readings yesterday and a zoom meeting with our Power of 8 group.  Very powerful and fun.  Still felt really tired last night and did not manage to do a post.  Today I am feeling better, although there is still plenty to do.  

Seems we all took a vow at some time in the past.  It is a vow to build the inner flame until it is strong and powerful enough to burn through the fires of the external chaos.  This inner flame is composed of Love and it needs to be tended.  

I am reminded of a quote by Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, “Someday, after mastering the winds, the waves, the tides, and gravity, we shall harness for God the energies of love and then, for the second time in the history of the world, humanity will have discovered fire.”

A quote from Anne Hillman’s wonderful book ‘Awakening the Energies of Love’:  “The hardest thing to change in a person or a culture, are the beliefs and values at our core.  We are programmed to know.  The work of spiritual practice is to override the program.”  This is especially true right now.  The way we have been living is not working for us or for anyone else or for the planet.    Today let’s ask, “What would Love do?” And take action from that place.
